Orchard Press — a mark for a small publisher

A quiet identity for an independent press that prints slowly and means it.

O

Orchard Press publishes four books a year and reads every submission twice. They came to us with a name they half-liked and a fear of looking corporate.

What we did

We kept the name, sharpened the reason for it, and built an identity around the idea of a press that takes its time — a wordmark set in a book-weight serif, a restrained palette borrowed from cloth bindings, and a colophon system that makes every title feel like part of one shelf.

The outcome

The mark went onto spines, slipcases, and a very small amount of signage. A year later it still reads as a publisher you’d trust with your manuscript — which was the entire point, and the hardest thing to fake.
